On Saturday, 9th December 2017 from 10am-midnight, (Independence day!) we will be hosting our 2nd Annual Nafasi Arts Festival, right here at our premises (Mikocheni B, Eyasi Road, ITV). The Theme for the day will be “FOOD, FUN, & ART FOR ALL” as we celebrate the Arts and Culture in Tanzania. There will be: Art Exhibitions, ChapChap Public Art workshops, Theater and Dance Performances, Open Studio Walks, Affordable Art Markets, Food and Drinks, and the year’s final edition of Wikiendi Live!, so the whole day will be packed full of amazing events. In detail:
*Exhibition The winner’s and submitters to the “Art and Democracy” competition run in partnership with Twaweza will have an opportunity to showcase their work in a group exhibition in our Nafasi Gallery, that will be up for the rest of the year.
*ChapChap: Public Art Workshop We are currently preparing an exciting activity for this year’s final public art workshop. Look forward to the next newsletter for more information.
*Theater Performance There will be a 50 minute play “Dr. Sijawa Bado”, a semi-musical performance in Kiswahili by Kimela Billa, with Vicensia Shule as the lead actor.
*Dance Performances MuDa Africa a non-profit organization that provides professional dance training to Tanzanian youth, will showcase a moving contemporary dance piece.
*Open Art Studios The public will be welcome to visit professional artists’ studios, talk to the artists and see what they have been up to for the year.
*Art Market There will be a varied market, like a bazar, where you can find fine art, crafts, fashion, jewellery, food, drinks, and many other interesting things. Come with full pockets, leave with full bags of unique goodies.
