SUMMARY:Somewhere between Kapiri Mposhi and Dar Es Salaam: The Tazara drawings
DESCRIPTION:Last year Klaus Hartmann spent some months in Zambia and from there he came to Dar Es Salaam by train. Klaus Hartmann’s drawings capture a piece of time and the architectural features of different areas along the TAZARA route. They are images of places and buildings that are in a state of suspense between past and present. Often these are places that are about to disappear. \nDuring his residency programme at NAFASI he translated his travel experience with the Tanzania – Zambia Railways\, TAZARA\, into a collection of paintings. \nThe exhibition “Somewhere between Kapiri Mposhi and Dar Es Salaam: The Tazara drawings” opens this Saturday 26th March and will remain so until 9th April 2022. \nEntry is FREE and starts at 6:30 pm \nKaribu Nafasi Art Space \nWe would like to acknowledge the support from Goethe Institute in Tanzania to facilitate Klaus Hartmann residency at  Nafasi Art Space.

Lete Stori is an interactive dialogue session sharing the lesser known stories behind the talent\, followed by a live music performance. \nOur guests this month will be Jagwa Music\, who play a unique style of music with chakacha roots known as mchiriku. The group uses traditional & analog instruments including a small hand-held keyboard\, several drums\, whistles and a battered old stool\, which is beaten with sticks for extra percussive flavour. \nJagwa Music are guaranteed to deliver an explosive show that will move your feet and pick up the dust with their famous songs like “Mpango mzima”\, “Kondakta”\, “Asha” and many more….. \nThe event also includes an exhibition by our current Artist in Residence Klaus Hartmann\, from Germany. \nNafasi is always family friendly and welcoming to all. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the D.A.R- Digital Arts Residency exhibition which features four artists who have been in residency at Nafasi for the last five weeks\, both physically and virtually. \nThe exhibition will be the first time Nafasi incorporates Augmented Reality technology\, aiming to create a truly immersive and participatory art experience. \nThe artists’ work explores themes and topics ranging from nature\, Tanzanian history\, indigenous tattooing practices\, virtual selves and more. \nWe look forward to seeing you! DESCRIPTION:Nafasi Art Space is pleased to invite you to the exhibition Another Time\, an interactive Virtual Reality Exhibition of artists from 6 continents\, showcasing artwork made during a period of quarantine or self isolation. \nAll artists exhibiting in Another Time are part of the ‘Quarantine Residency’ project\, an experimental online residency program connecting artists and curators from around the world\, including Rebecca Yeong Ae Corey and Jesse Gerard as curators and Hussein Juma as one of the selected artists from Nafasi Art Space. \nThe VR exhibition can be accessed from 24 May on the website quarantineresidency.com. \nVirtual Exhibition \nThe exhibition shows works from 30 artists from 24 countries and six continents. They have been selected from a total of more than 600 artists from 82 countries\, who submitted more than 2000 artworks\, in media that ranged from painting and photography to installation\, new media and performance. The artists’ backgrounds and experience range from established professional artists who have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale\, to emerging and self-taught artists for whom this exhibition will be their first international exposure. \nThere will be both a VR exhibition and 2D virtual gallery space. The VR exhibition will allow people from around the world to interact with one another in the space\, creating a space ‘without borders’ for people to experience and discuss art.  The virtual gallery gives the audience the chance to see the artworks with a high resolution and read the stories and experiences of the artists. \nBeyond the Exhibition \nThe Quarantine Residency is an Online Artist Residency program. Selected artists participate in an online program of discussions\, critiques and artists talks. \nGallery exhibitions of the project will take place with our partners in Turkey\, Tanzania\, Indonesia\, Australia and China after the pandemic. \nThe QR team are also creating a “Quarantine Museum”\, a digital library of the thousands of artworks and experiences collected during this time. Although the applications for the Online Residency have closed\, applications for the Quarantine Museum will remain open.

SUMMARY:Raza Reflections Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Raza Mohamed is a self-taught Postwar & Contemporary artist born August\, 1946 in Tabora\, Tanzania. He grew up around Tanga\, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar and was educated in Mombasa\, Kenya. He participated along the years to an impressive record of exhibitions in Kenya\, Nigeria\, USA\, Holland\, Denmark\, Germany plus numerous expositions in several international cultural centres across East Africa. Alongside other established painters like Professor Jengo\, their skill sits alongside Makonde and Tinga Tinga which are highly regarded Tanzanian creations.\nHe started sketching with charcoal in 1952. By the time he was a teenager he had already made up his mind. Art and painting was going to be his life. His efforts and talents are such that he has been nominated member of the art committee in the State House\, headed by Professor Elias Jengo. No wonder he was amongst founding members of Nyumba Ya Sanaa venue.\nWe are very happy to welcome such an incredibly talented and well established artist to Nafasi Art Space.
