Job Title: Nafasi Academy Programme Coordinator
Nafasi Art Space is a cultural center for contemporary visual and performing arts in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Nafasi is a working ground for the arts, as well as a place for learning, exchange, and sharing artistic work with the public.
The Nafasi Academy is a collaborative, co-creative and inclusive education programme that offers a long-form, inquiry-based curriculum for developing artists, curators and arts managers with a focus on conceptual contemporary art practice.
Nafasi is looking for a Nafasi Academy Programme Coordinator to begin working from 1 February 2022. We are seeking an energetic person to join our small but passionate team. The ideal candidate would be passionate arts advocate, hard worker and keen learner who will work with the Academy programme manager and Visual Arts Manager to ensure smooth implementation of Academy programme activities.
Support Academy Programme manager on logistical and interpersonal elements of the programme including correspondence, documentation, scheduling, data collection and communications
Schedule and organize detailed Academy calendar and course overview for internal and external use and maintain up to date information on all aspects of the course
Oversee orientation, registration and studio allocation of Academy members
Ensure up to date and clear correspondence between Academy Members and management team
Devise, implement and support documentation and data collection (incl.surveys) throughout the programme for promotion, reporting and communication purposes
Support the implementation of all public events related to the programme in various capacities including installation, sales, audience support, and documentation
Oversee and schedule speaker and mentor invitations and maintain data log for course contributors
Public Relations, Audience Development, and Marketing/Promotions:
Support Academy program manager and Nafasi’s marketing team with collection and contextualization of programme information for promotional use
Maintain and organize photos, videos and other documentation related to Academy activities
Other duties may be performed, if need arises, with approval of the Visual Arts Manager and/or Academy Programme Manager
– Arts/culture management experience or arts/culture education (Minimum of two years)
– Passion and commitment to promoting and supporting contemporary visual arts in East Africa
– Moderate knowledge of the local arts community and Tanzania art history. Interest and motivation for growth of said knowledge through self study
– Strong writing and communication skills in English or Kiswahili (fluency in both preferred)
– Tanzanian citizenship or permanent residence (no work/residence permit required)
Job Location: Mikocheni B, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Period of contract: 1 years, with potential for renewal based on job performance (three month probationary period)
Expected start date: 1 February 2022
Hour/day requirements: Full time (9am – 5pm, Mon – Fri, plus Saturdays/evenings for special events)
Remuneration: Commensurate with skills/experience
Reports to: Nafasi Academy Programme Manager
