KOLA
Born and raised in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Yahya Mzee Mwinyikombo. Popularly known as Kola, has drawn his path into fame with not more than his secondary school art class lessons. A principal theme in Y-Kola’s work is the nature of time. He is also concerned about his cultural heritage as a Zanzabari, and the confluences between religious and cultural thought. He has also become a regular feature at the East African Art Biennale exhibitions, and numerous exhibitions in Zanzibar. He generally operates at a studio at Park Hyatt Zanzibar which he employs as a platform introduce his art to the rest of the world. Kola was the Nafasi Artist in resident for Oct 2019.
