Community Day at Tushikamane Pamoja Foundation
Members of Nafasi Art Space alongside Nafasi staff, visited Tushikamane Pamoja Foundation in Kibaha NjeTeni for a joint community day.
The day began early with two buses departing from Nafasi. Despite heavy rains and one bus getting temporarily stuck, the group arrived around midday. The delay didn’t derail the energy—if anything, it set the tone for a resilient and memorable experience.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly received and introduced to the elderly residents. The program blended artistic engagement with social interaction:
- Performing artists led music sessions, including singing and karaoke
- Visual artists created a beach-themed mural—effectively bringing a coastal landscape to the residents
- Interactive activities included games and shared storytelling
- Cultural exchange featured traditional music from the elderly community
- Portrait drawing featured visual artist
The day also incorporated a Dhahabu Friday session with John Kiteme, adding a familiar Nafasi cultural element to the experience.
Food was shared, conversations flowed, and the atmosphere remained lively throughout. What stood out wasn’t just the activities, it was the genuine connection between artists and the elderly community.
Bottom line: this wasn’t just an outreach visit. It was a well-executed cultural exchange that used art as a bridge between generations.
